The Protogressive Show explores the earliest days of what is currently known as alternative rock. In the 1960s rock musicians had no other outlet for their artistic expression than the top-40 AM radio stations. This stifled creativity, and many began to experiment with the rock format, incorporating influences from classical, jazz and other sources, without regard for commercial appeal.
